He’s dominated the international music festival scene. So international actors should feel threatened. Especially a certain star who got a direct shoutout from Big Diesel.

He’s appeared in Kazaam and is a staple in Adam Sandler’s movies. But Shaquille O’Neal is growing his acting chops. He’s shooting for roles in Vaudeville and the Bond realm now. In particular, he’s trying to be the next Idris Elba.

In an Instagram post, he wrote, “hey @idriselba i’m coming for all those LONDON ROLES #TOPBOY.” The Reel that accompanied it was the showstopper.

“Hey Shaq here. You guys wanna hear my London accent,” he said before clearing his throat. Then, in a starkly thin voice, he said, “Hey Idris, I bet you wish your accent sounded like this, eh?” 

The ‘London accent’ was obviously a friend dubbing it over him. Shaq hilariously didn’t lip-sync that right either. So we’re not holding our breaths for his sudden appearance on The Crown.

But Shaq is gunning for a different Netflix show. He referenced the British crime series, Top Boy, starring Ashley Walters and Malcolm Kamulete. It’s set in the real place of the London Borough of Hackney with a distinct vibe, making a gripping storyline. So we know what Shaq is watching right now. In case Top Boy is looking for a 7’1″ spotter in Summerhouse, they know who to hit up.

To be fair, Shaq has no bone to pick with Idris Elba. But the Oscar-nominated icon has a reputation in TNT circles.

It’s not uncommon to be watching Inside the NBA and suddenly you hear Idris Elba’s name. It happened once in 2022 too, the year People magazine picked Chris Evan’s as the sexiest man alive. Charles Barkley didn’t agree with People. He has his own highly rated list of ‘man-crushes’ as prestigious as People’s annual event.

Yes, he showed his loyalty to Tom Brady by picking him over Captain America. But he was quite bitter that Idris Elba was missing from the list. Note that Elba was voted the sexiest man in 2018. Chuck braved teasing from Shaq & Co. to declare that Elba should’ve been on the list.

Elba might come up on TNT again. As the official handle of NBA on TNT commented, “Let’s hear it on the next show,” under Shaq’s post.
