The NBA record books could very well see a change of name. Calling it an autobiography of Wilt Chamberlain is by no means a stretch. While players today compete for records, 99%? of them were set by the 7-foot anomaly. Whether for the Warriors or the Lakers, Chamberlain dominated the entire sport. The only player to come close to him in terms of dominance was Shaquille O’Neal. However, the Miami Heat champion fell victim to a fake graphic involving Wilt recently.
Seeing a historic feat by his teammate/friend, the late great Kobe Bryant, O’Neal shared the message while forgetting to fact-check its bold claim.

When we see record graphics, most of them come with the same caveat. “* Except Wilt Chamberlain.” Unfortunately, that remains the case for a large majority of NBA history. When James Harden went on a historic scoring run in 2018, the graphic held true. When Nikola Jokic, who Shaq disrespected recently, redefined passing as a Center, the graphic held true. Wilt The Stilt?was everywhere. As a challenge, he averaged double-digit assists. As a challenge!
He was the only man who could call out Michael Jordan and get away with it.
So, when a Kobe Bryant fan page shared a graphic hyping up the Mamba, they forgot to factor in the anomaly. During his uncanny scoring streak through the mid-2000s. Bryant accumulated multiple scoring records.
The page tried to claim that his 2007 season saw the most 50-point games by a player in NBA history.
Unfortunately, Chamberlain had multiple seasons with over 30 games with 50 points. Using the same caveat that all of NBA history has suffered through would make the graphic valid. Unfortunately, Big Diesel did not realize this, putting up the post on his IG story.
After years of rivalry finally blossomed into a friendship, it is hard to find fault in O’Neal trying to shower praise on the Mamba.
The Shaq and Kobe story
A story as old as time itself. When Shaquille O’Neal got traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, the primary bargaining chip was a 17-year-old Kobe Bryant. Then-GM Jerry West claimed that Kobe Bryant was the next big thing, luring Shaq to the city of Angels.

Of course, West’s promise held true. Over the next few seasons, the duo ran through the entire NBA. As a result, they completed the first three-peat in the organization’s illustrious history.
Unfortunately, locker room politics and ego got in the way, and the four-time champion was out of LA.
For the next decade or so, the two were embroiled in a heated rivalry. While both enjoyed levels of success during the rest of their tenure, their peaks were spent with each other. However, prior to Kobe’s retirement, the two finally mended fences. And, one of the greatest duos of all time was back on the same side.

As we all know Bryant unfortunately passed away a few years later. But the 7-foot Shaq has made sure to give the Mamba his proper respect and ensure that his legacy lives on. Rest In Power, Kob.
