His tenacity and desire to win earned the respect of MJ, which is not an easy feat. When asked by ?Bleacher Report? on his top off-court moment, the 5x All-Star reveals, ?That?s the best part ? the off-the-court stuff, being in the locker room with the guys, on the road, going to eat.?.
He further adds, ?I think it was maybe my second year in the league and we played the Bulls, and after the game, I went to eat with Michael at his restaurant. I?ve met all these guys that I grew up watching and idolising – Dr. J, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic. To have an opportunity to spend time with those greats was and has been a big thrill of mine.?.
Despite being known as one of the most competitive athletes of all time, Michael Jordan knew what it meant to build a community. He understood that it was much bigger than just a game of basketball. His treatment of a young Grant Hill proves that. Michael Jordan and Grant Hill had some heated matches against each other back in the day. Both the players were incredible offensively and gave each other a run for their money. But how good was Grant Hill really?
When Grant Hill claimed he could surpass Michael Jordan
Many, including the 50-year-old NBA Hall of Famer, believe that Hill could have been another Michael Jordan of the 1990?s and 2000?s had he not gotten injured. On the Carlos Watson?s show, Grant Hill told the host, ?Well, of course in my mind, yes it was a possibility (to surpass MJ). I mean who knows. When I came into the NBA, I had success right away. Certainly, there was a void because MJ had retired and a lot was sort of dumped on me.?.
The 5x All-star further explained, ?I got hurt after my sixth season. It was really, for obvious reasons so disappointing. But it was interesting because certainly for me having some fight to get back to play. What I went through with my injuries and missing four years, that story hasn?t been told.?.
The former NBA star suffered a major ankle injury during his prime. It was definitely a tough time for a player of his caliber. But despite his injuries, Hill reinvented himself and played for a whopping 12 more seasons. He was better than most, but he was not in the elite form he was in when he first joined the league.
