When a child from Indiana turned up the radio, excited to the core, as Muncie Central was triumphed by the East Chicago Washington in 1960, little did anyone know that a dream was ignited. That dream became a reality in the form of Gregg Popovich, one of the greatest minds in basketball history. During his time with the San Antonio Spurs, he has mentored and guided numerous players to greatness in the NBA. Among them, one who excelled at the game and contributed to the Spurs winning the championship in 2003 was Stephen Jackson.

After retiring from the game in 2015, Jackson has been doing well with his own podcast Showtime Basketball. But this didn’t stop him from sharing with the world some really outrageous basketball takes during a separate interview on The Herd.

Stephen Jackson compares himself to NBA greats

In a resurfaced video from four years ago, Stephen Jackson was asked to compare himself to NBA legends. During the interaction with Colin Cowherd, Stephen Jackson was asked if he was better than these NBA players. The answers he gave have left people amazed.

He was asked by Cowherd if he was better than Ray Allen, to which he said, ‘Definitely“. He then proceeds to mention that the fans might say Ray Allen can shoot, but he is definitely better than Allen.

Stephen Jackson was then asked if he thinks he was better than Manu Ginobili, to which he replied that he is definitely better than Ginobili as well. He said Ginobili succeeded in the Spurs system, but he went to different teams and put up 20 points in whichever organization he ended up in.

But when asked if he was better than Blake Griffin at the time, he said there was no way. “That is a whole different animal“, He said he couldn’t compare himself to Ray Allen, but then said that he was better than Vince Carter and Carmelo Anthony on some days. Stephen Jackson finally calls him the “Tupac of the NBA“, which to him, means that he is an outlaw. Fans have always made fun of the 45-year-old for these comments, with one fan even calling it ‘sick work‘ and another saying ‘you are barely better than Matt Barnes‘.

Stephen Jackson’s troubled relationship with Gregg Popovich

Stephen Jackson was part of the San Antonio Spurs when they won the championship in 2003. He was later let go but brought back to the team in 2012. Following his return, he was not getting enough minutes on the team. Once after practice, Popovich showed Jackson a video of the worst possessions he had. After this, Pop asked him to admit to Danny Green and Manu Ginobili that they were better than him.

Jackson said he only had love for Pop because Pop did this because he couldn’t tell on his face that he had to release him. After getting waived by the Spurs right before the playoffs, the Spurs went on to face the Miami Heat in the NBA finals. Stephen Jackson revealed during an interview with Matt Barnes that if he had been on the team, he would have gotten the rebound and wouldn’t have allowed the iconic Ray Allen shot to happen.
