Nearing the end of his speech, Wade asked his father, Dwyane Wade Sr., to stand up. Since he started off his speech by thanking the man, the Miami Heat legend stated that it should end in the same way as well.

?When I cried and said ?I can?t?, you made me go harder. You push me to the limits that I didn?t know were inside of me,? said Wade. The Flash made it clear that the hard work he put in was because he didn?t want to let his father down. The countless hours that the duo spent in the backyard, practicing, helped the 3x NBA champion to become the player he turned out to be.

As the audience let out a laugh, Wade remembered the moment when his father was kicked out of a game as his coach but still managed to ?snuck in back the side door,? provide him guidance from the stands, and got kicked out again. While it was a hilarious story for everyone else, it was an indication for the player that his father had ?no limitations? when it came to standing by his side.

?So even though I hated being called ?Little Dwyane?, I admired you as a kid. I admire you now?. Along with carrying the same name, the duo also carried the same dream. The dream to mark their place in the Basketball Hall of Fame. If the people in the audience weren?t already teary-eyed, they certainly weren?t prepared for what Wade suggested next.

?So Pops, I know your knees are a little sore. But would you join me on stage, as we take our rightful step into Basketball Heaven,? said Wade during the conclusion of his speech. The audience unified in their applause as they saw the legend?s father climbing up the stage and giving his son a warm embrace.

Even in the past, Dwyane Wade has never shied away from giving credit to his father where it is due. It was 10 years ago when the 13x NBA All-Star spoke about how his father shielded him from certain struggles during his childhood.

?My mom was on drugs and my family was in the gang environment, so it was a rough childhood,? said Wade during his discussion with the HuffPost. Things started to change for the young star by the age of 9, however, after he moved with his father to a ?Chicago-Area neighborhood?.

Describing his father as a “militant”, Wade stated that Dwyane Sr. kept him out of trouble but also put him in sports. This helped in the formation of certain dreams that weren’t there earlier.
