Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors recently bid farewell to the game. After playing for nearly 19 years in the league, the 39-year-old announced it was time for him to hang his boots. He was like a “big brother” to his teammates at the Warriors. Although they were asking him to go for one more season, Iguodala said that his body wouldn’t be able to take it anymore.

However, the 4x NBA champion will not get to enjoy a ‘retired life’ just yet. He has several things lined up for him in the business world and he only wishes to expand it further. Although the 39-year-old refuses to open a “can of worms” on his net worth, he recently expressed his desire to own a team in the NBA.

Iguodala’s life consists of several interesting things outside of basketball. Soon after his retirement, it was announced that Iguodala would be heading a $200 million venture capital fund called Mosaic. In addition to that, he is also an investor in several sports franchises among other ventures. His list of investments includes Leeds United in the EPL and Bay FC in the NWSL. However, the 39-year-old also wants a piece in the league that he loves the most, the NBA. Recently he expressed his desire to join the ownership team and detailed how he has been preparing himself for the role.

Iguodala made this massive admission during his recent conversation with Bloomberg. He said, “That’s definitely something I’m looking forward to building towards. I’ve already bought into a few sports franchises.” He said that joining the boards for the teams he has invested in has opened his senses and prepared him for the NBA. As per Iguodala, “operating role”, is what he wants and for that, he believes he has been preparing all this time. He also said that he was a part of some of the best teams in the league, such as the Warriors and the Miami Heat.

Andre Iguodala had second thoughts on retirement

Despite being convinced of his retirement decision, Iguodala started having second thoughts at the last moment. The reason for his reconsideration was Chris Paul‘s joining the team. The Warriors veteran said that he really wanted to play alongside Paul but still decided to go against his wish. Despite Iguodala bidding farewell to his team, his legacy at the Warriors will always be remembered fondly. More importantly, his ex-teammates cite him as the reason behind an attitude shift that changed their lives, on and off the court.
