Allen Iverson has done it all. His collaboration with Reebok is something that still earns him money to this day. Back in 2001 and 2002, Reebok partnered with a three-time Grammy nominee to promote the A5 and A6 in Iverson’s shoe line. Even though it was a solo performance by the ‘Why‘ singer in the 2001 commercial for the A5, Iverson decided to join in on the track in 2003 for the A6.

This led to an iconic collaboration between the 76ers legend and Jadakiss. But 20 years later, what does Iverson think of his venture into the music industry?

In an interview with GQ, Iverson was asked about his iconic Reebok commercial with Jadakiss. In the first commercial from 2001, Jadakiss was the only one rapping, and Iverson was just doing some moves with the basketball. But in 2003, they decided to do more for the commercial for Answer 6.

This time, Iverson also started rapping with Jadakiss. When asked if he wrote the lyrics himself, Iverson said, “I am not saying it like bragging like I was some great rapper, cause I was terrible“.

It’s been 20 years since then, and the commercial still remains iconic. Iverson talked about how he feels about it now. He said, “It was a bad idea and I am so embarrassed for doing that – Looking back to it and listening to it is torture“.

Well, it looks like Reebok needs to bring back some of the marketing techniques from back then as they are trying to make their way back into the basketball world. But this time, he is not alone in the music business.

Iverson’s failed music career

In early 2000, Iverson released his debut song, ‘40 Bars‘. However, the song included various lyrics that were violent and inappropriate to listen to. This made the NBA commissioner at the time, David Stern, tell Iverson directly that he had to change his lyrics.

Iverson was not bad at rapping. However, the content he decided to put out was not appreciated by the NBA. This was significant as he is one of the stars of the league. So the lyrics were changed ahead of the song and the album’s planned release. But later, Iverson scrapped the idea of an album as controversies kept following it.
