The last person we expect relationship advice from is Shaquille O’Neal. Yet he gave some advice on The Big Podcast with Shaq that left a few doing a slow “okay” and swiftly moving on. The folks at The Breakfast Club weren’t going to let this pass so easily. Shaq’s old friend, Charlamagne Tha God, had to chime in on his opinion.

As a refresher, Shaq had this to say about emotionally opening up to women on his podcast. “Open up to a woman… Never. You don’t.” O’Neal, who is divorced from Shaunie Henderson and hasn’t had many fairytale romances in public, explained his reasoning too. “Because once you do, whenever something go down, they’re gonna throw it back at your face.”

The Big followers debated his comment for a day and seemingly forgot about it. Not Charlamagne Tha God. Shaq’s social media friend who was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020 commented that there’s some validity to Shaq’s statement. But it’s not limited to just women.

It depends on the woman and it depends what your relationship with the woman,” the comedian said at first. Then he added, “But if it’s you know your wife or you know longtime partner or you know, a a really good friend, a best friend somebody you consider a sister, yeah there’s nothing wrong with opening to them.”

He goes on to expand Shaq’s idea further. “I don’t even want to make it a gender thing. Like people tend to, you know…  if they’re not good people they’ll tend to throw things back in your face when it’s convenient.” He concluded by saying, “it’s not a gender thing, it’s a people thing to me.

Charlamagne Tha God has a less restrictive perspective and he stirred up a debate among callers and social media users. It remains to be seen if Shaq responds to his take. They do have a history of that.

Shaquille O’Neal’s debates with Charlamagne Tha God

There’s no beef between Big Diesel and the Breakfast Club host but they do banter. In 2017, when LaVar Ball clashed with a radio host on air, Charlamagne Tha God picked the Big Baller Brand mogul’s side. Shaq took to Twitter (now X) to respond, “I totally don’t agree with you on this topic.”

Now Shaq also has his own feud with LaVar Ball. So it’s farfetched to expect him to pick his side. While he has no animosity for Charlamagne, he complemented that statement with a video of himself violently throwing his opponents on the court. It had no context, but fans joked that was a threat to Charlamagne.
