The NBA continues to make its transition towards an offense-centric league. While that change has been a source of criticism from former players, a few believe they could even make a comeback. Due to the ease with which an NBA offense works, Jamal Crawford claimed he would average over 20 in today’s game. Soon after, Paul Pierce was ready to make a return as well. After an offer from the Big 3, it seemed like the Boston Celtics legend might cool off on his desire for a return. Instead, he is ready to double down on his plan.
Speaking to Kevin Garnett on Ticket and the Truth, Pierce would continue his wishful thinking. This time, however, he was much stronger in making his case. “Man, I could help Dallas [Mavericks], dog. Down the stretch…They need that reliable shooter.”

He believes his game could perfectly complement guys like Kyrie Irving. “When Kyrie get to the lane, or Luka Doncic get into the lane and Uncle P in the corner.” KG was ready to hype up his guy, pointing to Pierce working out in the gym specifically on jumpers.
For the 2008 Finals MVP, the conversation is rather simple. “I got the itch…I’m seeing how these guys is out here hooping. I’m seeing what they bringing to the game and I’m like, ‘S**t, I could still give something to somebody.'”
But Paul has some criteria. Rather than go overseas, his comeback needs to come in the NBA. And, with the way the game is going, the Celtics legend is even ready to suit up as a Center. “I’m strong, I could push people around. I’m strong, I can shoot.”

And he has a deadline. “By February…However you wanna play me, but you play me the last 3 minutes of the game. I can still knock down some big shots for a team who need it.” While he has an offer from the Big 3 ready on his table, Pierce has bigger sights.
He even has the teams he would play for singled out.

After his claim earlier in the month, Pierce did get some offers immediately. However, they were courtesy of Nick Young in the Big 3 league. But, a pillar of the Celtics organization, Paul has loftier expectations for himself.
As a result, the two teams he believes he could meaningfully contribute to are the aforementioned Dallas Mavericks and his former team, the Boston Celtics. Pointing to their bench depth, his idea is sound in theory.

But, at 46 years old, the idea seems more like a pipe dream than reality. Could Pierce make a return? Moreover, would he be effective in that role?
