Michael Jordan‘s name is synonymous to basketball. Whenever one thinks of the game it’s impossible that MJ’s name doesn’t pop up. The possibility of Jordan taking up a different career than basketball is quite unimaginable. He did try his luck in Minor League Baseball but to no avail as he came right back to basketball. In a clip that has resurfaced that’s been doing rounds on the internet it was revealed that one of Jordan’s teachers wanted the six-time champion to take up a totally different profession.

MJ, apart from being a basketball legend, is a known golf fanatic and also loved the game of baseball. One has to wonder – if the six-time champion did not take up basketball as his career would he have achieved a similar kind of success in his field?

During his playing days Michael Jordan gave an interview where he was talking about his life and career. When touching on the topic of his schooling days MJ revealed that there was a time when his school principal advised him to take on something totally different than his would-be career.

MJ said, “One time my principal advised me to go to an air force academy because he felt that after I finished college, I have a job. I said no, I don’t want to go that route. So, I decided to go to University of North Carolina.”

Michael Jordan made it clear to his school principal that he doesn’t want to be part of the armed forces where the odds of one getting in are extremely low (11%). He decided to rather go to the University of North Carolina and the rest was history.

Michael Jordan remains an inspirational figure and is looked up to by many.

Interestingly, MJ has done various social advertisements throughout the course of his career, but one stands apart where he delivered a powerful message.

MJ’s powerful message

Michael Jordan once did an advertisement which still resonates well with the people. Michael Jordan in the advertisement says, “Maybe it’s my fault, maybe I led you to believe it was easy when it wasn’t. Maybe I made you think my highlights started at the free throw line and not in the gym. Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength, that my pain was my motivation.”

The six-time champion made it clear that there is no substitute to hard work in the journey to become great. Greatness is not achieved in a day, but one has to work for it for years and decades.
