The college football championship is done and dusted for the year and Charles Barkley is still stuck in the playoff decisions. Like many disappointed fans, he implied Florida State is incomparable while on the Back2UShow. He hasn’t spared a single occasion to criticize the CFP decision-making process to snub the undefeated Seminoles in December 2023.

A factor that caused it was the star quarterback Jordan Travis’ season-ending injury. Barkley, however, repeatedly contended that it’s far more impressive that the team remained undefeated while relying on backup quarterbacks. But it appears the CFP committee was determined to compare the Travis-less team to others.

When you win on the field, that’s all that should matter…” he said before mentioning a common sports stat based on comparisons. The stat I hate the most in all the sports is strength of schedule. When prodded about why he said that Barkley responded, Why is it my fault your team sucks?”

The strength of schedule refers to the abilities of one team as compared to another team. It’s relevant when certain teams don’t play against each other often. According to Barkley, Florida State should’ve been a strong contender in their conference.

Everybody says they play to teams… especially when you’re in a conference team. If your conference is in good, and that’s…” Barkley enumerated the grudge that everyone has reiterated. Florida State won the ACC title after an undefeated 13-0 record. It was ultimately ranked fifth in the nation, launching appeals and petitions by fans trying to make sense of this snub.

As Chuck put it, “They played LSU which is an SEC School but everybody said well the ACC was down. That’s not Florida State’s fault. They play those schedules that are made out years and years in advance.” This isn’t the only time he felt the Seminoles got the short end of the stick.

Even before the CFP contenders were announced, Barkley predicted that they’d leave Florida State out if Jordan Travis was out of the play. Everyone laughed him off till it came true. When his alma mater, Auburn’s rival, Alabama Crimson Tide, made it to the CFP, he ripped into them.

He slammed the committee for picking Alabama over Florida State. Now that Nick Saban, his favorite coach, is leaving the program, Barkley is rueing the state of college football.
