Magic Johnson is turning to NCAA basketball to get over the disappointing streak of the Washington Commanders. While a proponent of a smile going a long way, Magic has not held back his critiques about his own team. And neither have Washington fans. Nonetheless, the NCAA action he saw was the positive upliftment he needed. Juju Watkins is the 18-year-old phenom sweeping college basketball, and she’s enthralled the NBA legend too.

The avid social media user was in dire need of something positive to talk about online. He hasn’t been getting any of that with the Washington Commanders losing another game. So he turned to the NCAA games where he saw the USC Trojans sweep San Diego. The one responsible for the rush Trojans fans are feeling is Juju Watkins.

The 18-year-old freshman is the next superstar in women’s basketball and it shows. She added another 30-point game out of the seven she’s played so far. She’s broken WNBA Hall-of-Famer, Lisa Leslie’s record too. Watkins is the one to watch as Earvin “Magic” Johnson righteously put it.

USC freshman JuJu Watkins is must-see-TV, setting women’s college basketball on fire! With her 4th 30-point game, Watkins broke the freshman record held by Lisa Leslie and Paula McGee for most 30-point games in a season,” he wrote.

He made a minor faux pas, though. She recorded her fourth 30-point game against Cal Poly on November 29. The game against San Diego was her fifth 30-point game of the season. Still an impressive feat.

She has surpassed Leslie’s record of four 30-point games by a USC freshman in program history. Even more thrilling, Watkins met the mark with a three-pointer in the final three minutes of the game against San Diego.

She’s quickly becoming the reason to switch your loyalties to the Trojans. And maybe Magic is wishing for some NFL pros to take inspiration from this teen dynamo too.

Magic Johnson’s in need of a pick-me-up

The Washington Commanders suffered an embarrassing 45-15 defeat to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Clearly, Magic would rather watch Watkins taking the Trojans to an 89-58 blowout against San Diego. He had nothing to be thankful for during the Thanksgiving loss of 45-10 to the Dallas Cowboys either.

The weaknesses in the Commanders’ strategies are glaring, but Magic pointed them out, anyway. He hailed Dallas as the better team but fans want more from the team owner. Washington faithful are rallying to get Magic to make changes in the coaching staff.

The Commanders are coming closer to USC territory next to play against the Los Angeles Rams in SoFi Stadium. Maybe Magic could stop by USC to congratulate Watkins for a spectacular run.
