TNT broadcaster Stan Van Gundy’s wife Kimberly Van Gundy shockingly passed away on August 16, at the age of 61. The couple were married for 35 years. While the cause of death is unknown to the public, several sports players and celebrities offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
As the former coach deals with the unexpected tragedy, numerous have come to stand by his side. Just like his relationship with the team, Van Gundy’s bond with 8-time NBA All-Star player Dwight Howard is also admirable.

Dwight Howard’s heart-warming message to Stan Van Gundy
From having coached the player for five years to backing up during debates, their relationship is unique. The duo was remarkable. Together, their efforts elevated the Magic to an NBA final appearance in 2009. During his coach’s tough time, the former player penned down a message for him. Extending support to his coach and the person he admires, he wrote, “Stan I will always be there for you! We’ve been through it all, and these are the times that we need each other the most.”

He added, “My deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to you from the bottom of my heart. I want you to know that I and everyone from our Orlando team loves you and has your back through this time!” It must have been an emotional moment for the fans as well. Van Gundy’s former team Orlando Magic’s players and staff have come together to extend their support to their coach.

As the coach mourns the loss of his wife, the entire Orlando Magic family, including Dwight Howard, came together to show their support. Former NBA player Marcin Gortat and 8-time NBA All-Star player Vince Carter were also present for their coach.

While the Vinsanity played for the Orlando Magic in the 2009-10, Gortat spent 3 years with the team. During Van Gundy’s 5 year tenure (2007-2010) with the Magic, he was able to build a strong connection with the players and staff.

The 61-year-old has gained immense respect and admiration from the players during that time. In spite of all these years, players’ respect for him has remained steadfast. Days after the tragic news, Gortat took to his Instagram to share a picture of the entire group of Orlando Magic with Van Gundy. Jamaican player Patrick Ewing was also present with the others.
