The NBA athletes live a luxurious life and understandably so. They’re some of the highest-paid athletes on the planet and their lifestyle matches the money they generate. However, some purchases by these athletes sound absurd, sometimes even to them. Recently, NBA veteran Jalen Rose detailed his “dumbest purchase”.

The 50-year-old recently unveiled how he made a $15,000 dent to his wallet, in an attempt to do something nice for himself. Rose said that the $15k that he spent in Canada, on a mobile phone is the one purchase he regrets the most, even today.

Rose is a multi-millionaire and the 15k wouldn’t do any harm to his net worth. As of now, the NBA veteran is worth a whopping $60 million. His career earnings stand at a total of $102 million, safe to say, that he is secured for life. However,  the 50-year-old still values his money as if he’s new to it. Rose recently shared a clip from one of his interviews where he talked about the ‘dumbest purchase he has ever made’. He recalled, “I was in Toronto one time, and there was a day off”. The NBA veteran said that he felt like he should buy something for himself on that trip.

Since he’s size 15, he couldn’t buy shoes, and being 6’8 prevented him from purchasing any tailor-made suits as well. So, in an attempt to ‘spoil’ himself as he was “feeling rich” that day, he thought electronics would be the way to go. He said, “I paid $15k for a Vertu phone”, thinking that “Oh! it’s custom crafted by the same people who make Rolls Royce.” Rose was surely sold on the benefits of having that phone, but it only lasted for a short period of time.

Soon enough, his “I need that”, inner calling turned into a “dumbest purchase” acknowledgment.

NBA athletes and their most regrettable purchases

With great wealth doesn’t necessarily come great decision making. Although the NBA athletes are nothing short of a superhero on the court, some of their purchases will make you go “What were they thinking?” Let’s start off the list with former NBA star Jerome Williams who purchased a mascot for himself. Williams’s mascot was a Junkyard Dog.

Next up on the list is the Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen. The NBA veteran purchased a $3.4 million private jet, only to realize that it would need a few extra million to be fit for flying. Since Pippen didn’t put the money up for repairing work, the jet remained grounded. Latrell Sprewell comfortably beats the other two on the dumbest purchase list. The ex-NBA star defaulted on the payments of his luxury yacht, resulting in him burning over $100 million in career earnings over the next few years.
