Whether inspiring audiences to “Be Like Mike” or challenging them to push beyond their limits, Michael Jordan‘s commercials have left an indelible mark on the world of advertising and popular culture alike. From his iconic partnerships with Nike to his appearances in commercials for countless brands, the advertisement blended powerful storytelling with electrifying visuals.

A classic Michael Jordan commercial was revisited in 2024 in a new way. The 2008 Nike commercial starring His Airness was titled “Maybe It’s My Fault.” This entire advertisement has now been animated and keeps that inspiring factor intact. Marcus Jordan saw the animated recreation of his father’s commercial. He reshared the post captioned, “’Maybe It’s My Fault’ Nike x Jordan commercial. 2024 ANIMATED REMAKE,” on his Instagram Stories and added a glowing review. “HAHAHA THIS IS KINDA DOPE.”

Unlike the original, the animated Black Cat said, “Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I led you to believe it was easy when it wasn’t. Maybe I made you think my highlights started at the free throw line, and not in the gym... Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength. That my pain was my motivation. Maybe I led you to believe that basketball was a God-given gift and not something I worked for every single day of my life. Maybe I destroyed the game…”

This version showcased different versions of the Jumpman’s Chicago Bulls jerseys. He also referenced his brief baseball stint before the animated commercial ended with him stepping out of his ‘GOAT’ chair between his six championship trophies as he said, “…Or maybe you’re just making excuses.

From living through his father’s career to launching his own version of Air Jordans through the Trophy Room, MJ’s son Marcus also proved he’s a Nike loyalist. Apart from converting his girlfriend, Larsa Pippen to Nikes, he celebrated MJ Mondays on the Trophy Room Instagram page with a throwback to the famous Air Jordan Christmas commercial. Marcus was delighted to watch this recreation of the Nike ad. However, the original commercial had the same narration in a different montage. It showed different scenarios from Jordan’s life, from the North Carolina and Laney High School locker rooms.

Premiered during the 2003 All-Star Game, the Jordan Brand commercial titled “What is Love?” captured the essence of Michael Jordan’s career. Spanning his journey from iconic game-winning shots to his return to the NBA, the 4-minute, 30-second ad seamlessly intertwined highlights with the release of each Air Jordan shoe. Ending with Jordan preparing to enter a game as a member of the Wizards, the commercial culminated in a powerful message: “Love is playing every game as if it’s your last.” Promoting the Air Jordan XVIII shoes, the commercial stands as a testament to Jordan’s enduring impact both on and off the court.

In 1991, Jordan not only won his first NBA title but when Gatorade launched the “If I Could Be Like Mike” commercial, his popularity soared to new heights. The commercial shows footage of Jordan’s famous switch-hands layup in Game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals, which continued to push the narrative of Jordan being on another level as a basketball player. It also showed Jordan playing pickup basketball with a group of guys and children. The song is 100% true, as everyone, old and young, wanted to be like Mike. Jordan was truly a one-of-a-kind player.

In 1993, Michael Jordan’s ‘The Showdown’ was one of the greatest advertisements in Super Bowl history. This commercial had Larry Bird and Jordan playing in an intense game of H-O-R-S-E. The winner of the game earns the ultimate prize, which is Jordan’s Big Mac meal. Before the two begin the game, Bird hilariously says, “The first one to miss watches the winner eat. No dunking!” The commercial ends with the two continuing to play H-O-R-S-E. Rumor has it the two are still playing to this day.
