The biggest superstar to come out of North Carolina is finally getting an honor fit for his stature. Although Michael Jordan‘s legacy is more synonymous with the city of Chicago, the 6x NBA champion grew up in North Carolina. The County Manager Chris Coudriet recently announced plans for the Jordan Museum in NC.
Coudriet said that the county and Jordan’s family have signed a memorandum of understanding, (MOU) which outlines their plans for the next year. Apart from the Chicago Bulls legends, there are a handful of global superstars who can flex a museum based on their journey.

As per the latest update from the County, the Jordan family has finalized the spot where the museum will be built. Coudriet said, “The county, Cape Fear Development, and the Jordan family have identified the corner of Third Street and Chestnut Street as the ideal location to partner together to build this museum dedicated to telling this incredible story.” Although Jordan is not a stranger to receiving honors, his legacy in Wilmington is restricted to the Cape Fear Museum of History & Science on Market Street only. The official statement for the news states the family’s reason behind this upcoming museum.
The statement read, “This partnership is a next step to further share the family’s journey and guiding values, celebrate the Jordan family’s achievements and continue to inspire and impact Wilmington, North Carolina, and beyond.” With this, Jordan will mark his presence in a way that his reputation deserves and the aim to inspire the next generation will be the greatest outcome of this initiative. However, in the world of sports, MJ is not the only athlete who can boast a museum. From soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo to the NBA’s very own LeBron James, they are a part of this exclusive list as well.
