Michael Jordan‘s flu game is one of the most iconic moments in NBA history. Having fought through an illness, this game eventually became a career-defining moment for Jordan. A similar moment came for a young star of the USC Trojans, as her team was shorthanded and had to look for a new option to get them a victory.
After putting on a Michael Jordan-like performance, McKenzie Forbes earned huge praise from her head coach. With all the odds against her team, Forbes got into action and showed everyone why she was a McDonald’s All-American guard.

A majority of the starters for the USC Trojans were out during their game against Long Beach State. Out of the three that missed the game, two were suffering from illness. But McKenzie Forbes fought through hers. As she was sick, Forbes did not practice much with the team the whole week. Further, she did not even attend the pregame shoot-around. Yet, McKenzie Forbes went on to drop 36 points for the USC Trojans.
With star players like Juju Watkins and Rayah Marshall out, Forbes took it upon herself to get her team across the finish line, although she was mostly looked at as a role player until then. According to Trojans Wire, after the match, the head coach, Lindsay Gottlieb, said, “Kenzie had her flu game that I’m never going to forget my whole life.“
The USC Trojans defeated Long Beach State with a score of 85-77 with Forbes having a Michael Jordan-like moment of her own. Along with 36 points. Forbes also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, solidifying her position on the team.

Michael Jordan’s historic performance
During the 1997 NBA finals, the series was tied 2-2, and the Chicago Bulls had to go back to Utah for a game 5. But hours before the game, news came out that Jordan was feeling unwell and had flu-like symptoms.

Although Michael Jordan was physically struggling, he decided to give it his all and stepped on the court. Jordan scored 38 points and went on to have a performance that the fans would remember forever.
