Basketball Hall of Famer and beloved figure in Argentina, Manu Ginobili, recently conveyed a heartfelt message to his native people amidst the tumultuous times his homeland is facing. His native city, Bahia Blanca, has been gripped by violent storms, which have had a deadly impact on the city and the country.

Expressing deep concern for the struggling people affected by the sudden natural disaster, the 4x NBA champion urged strength in the face of this deadly disaster. Ginobili took to his social media to share a few words of comfort with the struggling people. His message read, “Very sad about what my club and my city and the region are going through. A big hug to everyone and my condolences to the families of the victims. Bay Force!!”

Many of his followers and fans also expressed their condolences in the comments section. Some even expressed how the city is suffering from the disaster.  The former San Antonio Spurs player was born in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires. It’s a port city that has suffered a majority of the damage thus far.

But Ginobili is making sure that his hometown is in his thoughts as they brave through these trying time. He previously represented Argentina in four consecutive Olympic Games from 2004. Ginobili even served as the flag bearer in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Additionally, he participated in three FIBA World Championship tournaments for his country.

So, the legend indeed holds a special place in the Argentinian people’s hearts. With his genuine words, Ginobili emphasized his connection to the people and places affected.

Bahia Blanca hit with deadly storm

Strong thunderstorms have hit Argentina’s Atlantic Coast resulting in about 13 fatalities, according to Bahia Blanca’s mayor. The conditions are said to be similar to a Category 1 Hurricane.

The storm, with winds exceeding 140 km/h, led to the collapse of Bahiense del Norte club in Bahia Blanca. Some are reporting that medics were attempting to provide care to patients at a basketball court when the roof gave in. There has also been widespread impact including power outages in the region.
