A lot has been said about the refs making calls in the NBA. It is now common knowledge that the league has become more lenient and free throws are being gifted for almost anything. The Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr recently addressed this issue after his team lost to the Denver Nuggets.

While Kerr suggested that the 18 free throws awarded to Nikola Jokic in their last matchup were a bit outrageous, NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins begs to differ. In fact, Perkins went on a tirade against Kerr, verbally thrashing him for hiding and throwing around allegations instead of taking names.

Kerr was fuming after the game over the fouls that were called on his players. Without taking any names in the press conference, he stated that the other team benefitted from the poor refereeing in the game. Moreover, he said, “We’re enabling players to BS their way to the foul line.” As per the Warriors coach, if this trend continues, it will end up disappointing fans to a point where they won’t tune in to the games anymore. He further said, as a fan, “I wouldn’t want to watch the second half of that game.”

Conversations around poor refereeing aren’t something that erupted after the Christmas Day game. The topic has been discussed over and over for the past several years. However, Kerr’s comments rattled Perkins to the point where he went on a rant on his ESPN show. Perkins said that he should call out the names he thinks are being favored. He said Kerr’s comments are “foul” and “over the last couple weeks, a lot of Steve Kerr comments have been foul. Matter of fact, they’ve been making my damn skin crawl.”

Perkins also said that when the Warriors were making waves in the league and winning championships, Kerr didn’t say anything about foul calls and free throws. He said that if coach Kerr really wishes to go the “old school route” it might end up hurting his team’s offense. Now it is unclear as to what prompted Perkins to say these things on the show. However, one thing is clear: he did not like any of the recent complaints made by Kerr.

Over the last few months, several players have been ejected as a result of poor judgment by the referees. This has led to a strong dislike towards the refs in the league. After all, the fans pay to watch a good, competitive game with their favorite players on the court.
