Not everyone can say that they were able to have a rivalry with the great Michael Jackson. But the Purple One was one of the few who went toe to toe with him during the 80s and 90s. Despite the musician’s elusive fame, Chicago Bulls legend Carlos Boozer had more than one interaction with the artist formerly known as Prince.

Boozer recently published his book EVERY SHOT COUNTS: A Memoir of Resilience by Carlos Boozer. In the book, he dedicated a whole chapter to the Purple Rain singer. In a recent interview with KTOO, Carlos Boozer was asked why he did this.

Carlos Boozer never thought that he would be able to interact with Prince and have a relationship with him. He was always a big fan of the artist and was constantly influenced by his music and his fashion. One day while he was in Utah, his realtor called him and said that someone wanted to rent his house 18,000 sq. ft house in LA, but Boozer immediately denied it because he had barely lived there himself.

The realtor kept calling him again and later revealed to him the offer made by the person who was interested in the property. The person was willing to spend $95,000 a month for the house, and this caught Boozer’s attention. The hooper agreed as that was a lot of money to pass up on.

Boozer then went to LA to sign the contract for the house without knowing who he gave it to. A limousine came up through the driveway, and it was none other than the legendary Prince. They both talked about basketball, and Carlos Boozer was star-struck to be standing in front of him.

Prince wanted to rent the house for a whole year, and he wanted to make his new album ‘3121’ while he was there. Since he was going to stay there for a whole year, he wanted to make a few changes to the house. Of course, as Boozer recounted, the changes were more than a few.

Still, he bought the house while not living in the city of Angels. So it wouldn’t be much of a loss for the Olympic Gold medalist.

After making it to the NBA and making a lot of money, Boozer wanted to enjoy life and spend money on things that he was not fortunate enough to have in his younger days.

Growing up, he stayed in a three-bedroom apartment with seven people. So once he made his money, he decided to spend it on a big house. The 2x All-star bought an 18,000-square-foot house in Los Angeles.

Boozer was 24 years old at the time and was playing for the Utah Jazz. He bought the big house in LA because he would spend the offseason there. So for the remaining 8 months, he would be in Utah.
