“Like Many, I’ve Suffered…”: A Year After Painful Loss, Michael Jordan’s Son and Ex-Wife Pen Heartfelt Note for “Baby Boy Makaveli”

It’s often forgotten that Marcus Jordan had his fair share of heartbreak amid the unjust scrutiny he’s been subject to in the past year alone. Michael Jordan’s son lost his best friend a year ago and he’s silently grieved for him every day since. His highly-publicized relationship was not the only thing in Marcus’s life for the past year. At this one-year point, he expresses his deepest emotions for his buddy.

Someone who’s been with him through thick and thin has been his mother. Michael Jordan’s ex-wife has been expressly supportive of everything her son does. During his moment of grief, she’s once again there with undying support.

Marcus Jordan mourns his best friend

For an entire decade, Marcus Jordan had one constant in his life – his precious furbaby, Makaveli “Mak.” Sadly, Mak passed away in November 2022. After a year of silently mourning him, Michael Jordan’s son poured all his emotions about his loss on social media.

“Like many I’ve suffered the loss of loved ones over the past 3 years. A little over a year ago, unfortunately, my baby boy Makaveli passed away,” Marcus wrote in a series of pictures of his time with his dog. He revealed their friendship began from the moment he got the 10-week-old puppy in 2011.

Mak was always with him, even when they moved 14 times. One of the images was from when they were indoors during Hurricane Ian and it was Mak’s last night. In his last days, Marcus heartbreakingly watched Mak suffer from an inoperable tumor.

“I knew he was struggling, but he stayed playful, happy, and unfazed till the end,” he shared. “So many memories that I’ll save for another time… Mak, your impact on my life was immeasurable and I know you’ll be waiting for me on the other side when that day comes.”

His heartrending emotions elicited equally touching responses from his followers. But none more special than from his mom, Juanita Vanoy. “Son, such a beautiful tribute to Mak,” she wrote. “He made me feel comfortable around big dogs; he was that gentle. I know how much you miss him. He’ll always be a part of our family.”

This is a rare moment where someone of the Jordan family has been so expressive. But Marcus is on a path of being more revelatory while his mother has his back.

Michael Jordan’s son bares it all

While Michael Jordan prefers to stay lowkey, Marcus is going with the flow of the public scrutiny that comes with dating Scottie Pippen’s ex-wife.

From their podcast, Separation Anxiety, he’s graduated to reality TV with his debut on The Real Housewives of Miami alongside Larsa Pippen. His early appearance has already elicited reactions but it’s all in a day for MJ’s son.

Marcus has been fueling the wedding rumors better than the faceless rumor mill. Claiming it’s “in the works,” he’s listed plans to have two wedding parties and have his six-time champion dad as his best man. MJ fans aren’t receiving the news too well.

Regardless, his mom, Vanoy, and his sister, Jasmine, have been nothing but welcoming of Larsa in the family.

Marcus continues to show different sides of himself contrary to all the assumptions people have about MJ’s son. His relationship with his dear ol’ buddy and his mom are the most relatable aspects of him.
