Having won a championship with the team, questions have always floated around on whether LeBron James deserves a statue outside the Crypto.com arena. James is currently in his 6th year with the Los Angeles Lakers, however, former Lakers star Robert Horry believes that it depends on Kobe Bryant.
“It’s crowded out there. It depends on where they put Kobe’s statue, and that’s coming up soon. So, it’s gonna be really interesting… because there’s not that much room out there,” said Robert Horry in a recent episode of the Big Shot Bob podcast.
The Lakers have already announced that the Kobe Bryant statue will be unveiled on February 8, 2024. So, Horry believes that for LeBron James to have a statue, the fans have to see where the organization is placing the Kobe Bryant statue.

There is already so little space outside the arena with all their existing statues. When looking strictly at basketball, the Lakers already have six statues outside the arena. They are Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, Elgin Baylor, Chick Hearn, and now Kobe Bryant.
Although LeBron James has already won a championship with the team and has also broken the scoring record held by Kareem, it is still unsure if the Lakers will cement LeBron’s legacy with a statue.
More than one championship is almost a requirement to be immortalized by the Lakers. Furthermore, many Laker fans believe that the team should have a statue of another Laker legend before having a statue of LeBron.

James Worthy played with the Lakers his entire 11-year NBA career. During his time, Worthy won three championships with the team. This led to Robert Horry also saying, “The Lakers fans would go bananas if they put LeBron’s statue out there before James (Worthy).“
