Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant wants to contribute as much as he can to the game of basketball. While he continues to stay at the top as a player, Durant has already made plans for turning into an owner after retirement. The internet believes KD knows nothing except basketball, and his ownership dreams prove it once again. However, a former Los Angeles Clippers star believes there might be hiccups if KD decides to become an owner. 

The 2x champion was thrilled by the thought of being an owner or a general manager. Importantly, the team Durant would like to own is the Seattle Supersonics, who drafted him second in 2007. The famous franchise was disbanded after it couldn’t find enough funding to build an arena in Seattle. The Supersonics were later moved to Oklahoma, now famously known as the Thunder. One of KD’s post-retirement plans is to bring back the Supersonics and lead them to the front. However, Lou Williams believes that Durant must not have an eye on ownership for a few specific reasons. 

Williams shared on FanDuel TV, “I’m buying the fact that he is excited about it. I think Seattle is a market that absolutely deserves an NBA team…I’m not buying the fact that star players can be great owners and GMs because I think they don’t have an eye for role players.”

This is a pretty bold claim from Williams because KD has just shown interest and is yet to enter the spectrum of ownership. However, the 3x 6MOTY has backed his talk by roping in the tale of Michael Jordan.

Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan joined the Charlotte Hornets as an owner in 2010. 13 years later, the 6x champion quit the run after the Hornets failed to make an impact in the league. In this long journey, Jordan made it to the playoffs only twice as an owner in 2014 and 2016. Notably, the Hornets were first-round exits both times. The main reason cited for the Hornets’ failure was the front office. They had several chances in the NBA draft to pick a potential superstar for the franchise. However, they were not capable of delivering a star player. Williams believes KD’s ownership might end up being similar to that of Jordan’s.

Williams shared, “I think they always look for themselves in guys and that’s why we’ve seen struggles with Michael Jordan as an owner…He’s not looking for the 8th, 9th guy.” Williams’s take on MJ’s ownership is true.
