January 22nd might be one of the most iconic days in NBA history. 18 years ago, it was the night Kobe Bryant immortalized his career with a 81-point performance against the Toronto Raptors. Last night, between a Joel Embiid masterclass of 70 points and a Karl Anthony Towns explosion, was a fitting ode already. Then, Kevin Durant happened. But, rather than give the Slim Reaper his credit, Kendrick Perkins believes he was the motivation for the 2014 NBA MVP.

A 30-point second half from Durant sparked the way for his Phoenix Suns to lead a 23-point comeback against the Chicago Bulls. However, according to Kendrick Perkins, he deserves some credit for bringing the fire out of his former teammate. “KD read my tweet at halftime and went 1 on 5 against the Bulls.”

The mentioned tweet at half time had Perkins making a bold assertion about the league. While the scoring is at an all-time high, the best scorer in the league is a title not many get to hold. For well over a decade, KD has been the one to hold the mantle.

Even though challenged at times by names like James Harden, the consensus lies with the 2x NBA Champion. Until now. “With all due Respect to KD… but Joel Embiid is the best Scorer in the game!!! He has mastered the offensive end and he has ZERO FLAWS offensively. What he’s doing to people on a night to night basis is ridiculous! God Bless America”

Durant’s former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate believes that him putting Embiid over the Slim Reaper, inspired his performance against the Bulls last night. While KD has not chimed in himself, he did share his disbelief when he heard about the iconic night JoJo had at Wells Fargo Center.
