When The Last Dance premiered in 2020, it was one of the most hyped sports documentaries in the world. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dynasty’s sensational story came when the global situation was bleak and we were in dire need of some hopeful viewing. For some people, it was more uplifting than expected. One of them was an embattled reality star whose legal troubles were drawn out in public.
Erika Jayne’s legal drama was at its peak in 2020. Fresh out of a lawsuit victory, the Real Housewife revealed how Michael Jordan’s documentary kept her spirits up.

Michael Jordan gave Erika Jayne positivity with his documentary
Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Erika Jayne in the past decade. While dealing with fallout and fights on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Jayne was getting dragged into lawsuits alongside her much older husband, Thomas Girardi. Things only got complicated when they announced their divorce in 2020. She filed for divorce in November 2020 and it’s yet to be finalized. During a recent interview, she said that it was a low point for her.
“It was so dark and it was so depressing. And I literally was just trying to, you know, put one foot in front of the other,” she said. She went on to reveal she found the will to move on in an unexpected source.
“But I used to lay on my sofa and I, I had ‘The Last Dance,’ the Michael Jordan Doc on 24 hours a day.”
She further said, “And I would lay there looking for inspiration and looking for the will to fight and looking for the hope in this turning around.”

Jayne and Girardi seemed pretty happy on RHOBH despite their 32-year age gap. The end of their 20-year marriage shocked both viewers and co-stars. She previously stated she didn’t inform Tom and quietly moved out of their home. The Last Dance premiered in April of that year.
A month after she filed for divorce, she was named in a lawsuit alongside Girardi. The lawsuit alleged that the divorce was a farce to hide the couple’s assets. She was also ordered by federal courts to stop her business ventures.

Erika Jayne found comfort in The Last Dance
Tom Girardi was accused of embezzling funds meant for the surviving families of those who died in the 2018 Lion Air plane crash.
He was also sued by business partners for non-payment of funds. Erika was named in the cases as plaintiffs claimed she knew about his wrongdoings. Going through a divorce and being dragged in her soon-to-be ex-husband’s fraud lawsuits, Jayne needed a ray of hope. And she got that watching MJ’s documentary.
Things have been looking up for Jayne. While the first charges were brought against her 84-year-old ex-husband, Jayne hasn’t been charged with anything. In early 2022, she was officially dismissed from the lawsuit.
