The Golden State Warriors have been in free fall. Between the over-reliance on Stephen Curry and Draymond Green’s suspension, their bad stretch was explainable. However, even with a returning Steph, the team had no answer for a young and dangerous OKC Thunder team. Their stellar play to begin the year has put everyone on notice. Led by potential MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the team grows from strength to strength.

Their poise and maturity in the clutch even impressed NBA veteran Isaiah Thomas. With a special mention to the team’s potential Rookie of the Year candidate, he had to acknowledge the magnificence of a young and dangerous OKC roster.

In perhaps the best example of an old vs new guard matchup, the Thunder were matching up against a veteran Golden State Warriors team. Despite securing a victory just 2 days ago, the return of Curry saw the scales tip in the Warriors’ favor. However, it didn’t amount to much.

Even though the game was far closer, the Thunder were ultimately able to overcome a tough Golden State hurdle. However, it was the Chet Holmgren show as time was winding down.

In arguably the best game of his career, the 7’1″ prodigy tallied 35 points in regulation. Further, it was his last-second attempt that forced the game to overtime. Ultimately, the fresher legs, with the continued ascent of SGA prove to be the difference maker.

Despite the game hanging in the balance at 120 apiece, 8 straight points by Alexander were the deciding factor in the game. Looking at the quality of basketball and the ascension of Oklahoma City on display, Thomas was left impressed.
