In a recent podcast episode of ?Gil?s Arena? podcast, former NBA veteran Gilbert Arenas addresses the current officiating culture in the NBA. After one of the co-hosts asks Arenas whether Jokic deserved to get ejected from that game, Arenas immediately replies, ?No.? Gilbert Arenas further explains how the ?ejection? process happens in today?s NBA games. He explains, ?I know it sounds bad but they remind me of cops. You (refs) have the power, supposed to have the discipline, supposed to have all the training that you got through, and the responsibility on us (refs) to behave in a manner.?
?
He further adds, ?Someone should ask Adam Silver this: ?If I?m a player, I?m playing a game that?s emotional. I?m acting in real-time, with real human emotions. And when I don?t control my emotions, a ref can give me a technical. Which means, whatever I said to him irritated him so bad that he (ref) didn?t control his emotions and gave me a tech.?
Gilbert Arenas reveals the double standards of the NBA referees today. Arenas explains that referees have no win-or-lose situation in any NBA game they officiate. So, they should be completely professional and not base their decisions on emotions like the players. But did Nikola Jokic cross the line with the NBA refs during the Nuggets vs Pistons game?
