One of the most accomplished players ever, with 5 championships to his name, his career wasn’t one without controversy.

However, the one most directly affecting his team involved Kobe Bryant during the Worm‘s short tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. As a direct result of his fling with the now-owner, then-owner’s daughter, Dennis and Bryant’s relationship dissolved to a bitter end.

The Lakers franchise is historically full of talent. Just recently, Anthony Davis claimed he would cement himself as one of the all-time Laker greats. Effectively, that is cementing yourself as an all-time great. Any reasonable list regarding the greatest ever includes a majority of players that wore purple and gold. However, even with such an illustrious history, only one duo was responsible for a three-peat in LA’s history.

That duo, of course, is Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. But, before they became a dominant duo that overtook the entire league, they had some squabbles in their own locker room.

Namely, with Dennis Rodman. The?Worm?was already a made man. Coming off a 3-peat and with 5 championships to his name, Dennis’ legacy was complete. So, was his notoriety. As a result, an unexpected feud with the top duo emerged.

The primary reason, as Rodman explains in his interview with VladTV was a shift in popularity. “Because the whole attention became Dennis. It shifted from them to me…You could see it in the stands and see it in the city and stuff like that…They rarely would talk to me, even in games and stuff like that.”

According to Dennis, the shift was apparent and obvious. And the primary reason? A relationship with Jerry Buss’ daughter.

Over the years, NBA fans have come to know about the many relationships that Dennis was in.

Whether Madonna or yes, even himself, his dating history is intriguing, to say the least. But, the man who Shaquille O’Neal once called the worst teammate ever has a never-ending list to unveil.

Hence, in the interview, Dennis Rodman revealed one name from the list that isn’t as well-known. That, is Jeanie Buss, the current Lakers owner. As he explains it, the relationship came about after Dennis already enjoyed a strong friendship with her dad, the great Dr. Jerry Buss.

“I know cuz Jerry Buss used to love me…I used to date his daughter at the time. And, we dated for like 6 months.”

According to the 7-time rebounding champion, the added attention turned off Kobe and Shaq, thereby forcing them to go to management to demand his removal. As it turns out, the move didn’t hurt the Lakers one bit. Over the next few years, they were the premier market, winning championships after championships.

However, had Dennis been a part of the core, one can only imagine how the story could have gone.
