The Game has always been a die-hard fan of Kobe Bryant. As the rapper was also from California, both of them had known each other since Kobe’s early years in the NBA. Having built a strong relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers over the years, The Game was not prepared to hear the news that shocked the world on January 26th, 2020.
While driving back home from his studio, one of Game’s friends asked him if he had heard the news about Kobe. Surprised to know what happened from his friend, Game revealed his experience finding the truth in a recent interview with VladTV.
“It’s one of those things where I pull the f***ing car over… I went straight to the internet, I googled, nobody was saying nothing. And I waited again, another 5 minutes, and then boom! TMZ. And it started going around, and I can remember shedding real tears again. I just couldn’t believe it. That s**t was surreal,” said the 2x Grammy Nominee.

Kobe Bryant has supported the rapper since his early days. According to Game, the Staples Center often played his song ‘Higher‘ in the arena when Kobe Bryant scored the ball. Kobe loved the music the Game was releasing. The two were in contact with each other and would often talk about their lives with each other.

So when the news of Kobe’s passing came out, Game was not able to hold back his emotions, and he shed tears at the loss of his good friend. Since then, the rapper has paid numerous tributes to the basketball great while also expressing his grief and sadness.

The rapper has previously revealed in an interview that Kobe loved his second album more than his first. He further added that his song from the ‘Doctors Advocate’ album would constantly be playing in the gym when Kobe was working out.
Kobe Bryant was referenced in The Game’s songs a lot. He has talked about his skills and work ethic on numerous occasions. But the ultimate sign of his love for Kobe was shown after his passing.

Soon after Kobe’s passing, The Game got the number ‘8’ tattooed on his face. This is a tribute to Kobe, as he had the number 8 in the early half of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
