Even though his own music career is taking off, DJ Diesel hasn’t been shy of extending love to other artists. Whether it be pushing young stars or fanboying over other established artists, the 7-footer is becoming an industry favorite. As with all his other ventures, Shaquille O’Neal brings the importance of relationships to his music career as well. As a result, it isn’t surprising to see him promote other artist collaborations. Especially, when their collaboration involves his greatest partnership: Kobe Bryant.

Two years after one of the collaborators got into major trouble with Kobe’s wife Vanessa, what effect will this latest news have?

During their heyday, there wasn’t a duo quite like the one with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the franchise’s golden-rich history, the two were the first to bring a three-peat to the franchise. Nearly 20 years later, no team or player has done the same.

So, a song in honor of the two legends did need some greatness. Lo and behold, from basketball to the music world, we get another all-time pairing. Teaming up once more for “Shaq and Kobe”, Rick Ross and Meek Mill are back, together.

While possibilities of past friction with Bean’s family were a possibility in the case of Meek, his message seems to suggest otherwise. While showcasing the cover for the single, he gave a heartwarming reason for coming up with the song.

“Kobe [Bryant] and Shaq [O?Neal]. R.I.P. to the G.O.A.T., legend, and father! I learned my motivation and ambition from you. I ain?t have a dad. I was going off y?all. Thank you. Friday [September 29].” Judging by the message, the song feels like it might be a tribute from one iconic duo to another.

Meek, in particular, would like to erase any bad blood and tension with the?Bryant?family.

The controversy with Kobe Bryant

The entire ordeal went down in 2021. Nearly a year after the 5-time NBA Champion’s untimely demise, an unreleased song featuring Mill was the subject of controversy. During one part, the $20 million rich artist says the line, “And if I ever lack I?m going out with my chopper, it be another Kobe.”?

Unlike the time Shaq made a Kobe reference in his music video, this particular iteration did not sit well in the Kobe household. His wife Vanessa, who’s striving to preserve her late husband’s legacy, immediately called out Meek for the insensitive lyrics.

With the heartfelt message and approval from O’Neal, it seems like this time around the story is different. With the impact that Mill talks about in his tweet, it seems obvious that the earlier friction was a misunderstanding.
