NBA stars are no strangers to the world of cinema and music. We’ve had several athletes who have starred in movies or have put out studio albums. From Shaquille O’Neal‘s platinum-selling record to LeBron James‘ acting role in Space Jam, the NBA stars have tasted success outside of the league.
One name, however, is often forgotten despite his featuring in a highly successful music video. Dorell Wright, an NBA champion with the Miami Heat played a love interest for award-winning singer Sevyn Streeter in the music video for her song It Won’t Stop feat. Chris Brown in 2013.

Wright was drafted by the Heat in the 2004 NBA draft as a 19th overall pick. He stayed in Miami till 2010, winning one championship alongside Shaq and Dwyane Wade. Although his NBA career never really took off despite a dream start in 2004, Wright would go on to represent several other teams. In 2013, he was approached for a role in Streeter’s music video for her hit song. Wright agreed and experienced his first-ever role in front of a camera. Today, the song has over 278 million views and Wright’s work was noticed by the fans.
The ex-NBA star shared his experience during a 2013 interview. Wright said, “I thought that song was great. I’m a fan of Sevyn and Chris Brown and when they reached out, I had to think about it because I’ve been asked before, but I just don’t think the situation has always been right. That worked out perfect. I would love to continue to be her lead man in different videos or whoever else. Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, whoever call me. It was a good experience to open up another door for myself.”

Despite his clear wish to do more such roles, no other opportunity landed at his feet in the last 10 years. As per IMVDB, this song is the only song Wright has acted in. The ex-NBA star announced retirement from basketball on November 18th, 2020. In his 16-year-long basketball career, Wright played in the NBA as well as in China and Europe.
After retirement, Wright took up the role of a sports analyst on TV. He worked with NBC Sports Bay Area where he was a part of the pre-game and post-game coverage for the channel.
