Magic Johnson met Simone Biles in 2016, and since then has been an avid supporter. Now on Biles’s birthday, Johnson shares an emotional message on his Instagram.

Happy Birthday to the to the GOAT of gymnastics, Simone Biles!! 🎉 She’s the most decorated American gymnast in history with countless records, 33 international medals earned and a vault named after her – Simone is in a class of her own and it’s so fitting her birthday falls during Women’s History Month!! I met her and her parents during an interview we did back in 2016 after the Rio Olympic Games, and she was so well-spoken and had such a great mindset. I’m glad she’s back and I’m looking forward to seeing what she can do this year!”

Biles will be taking part in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Her goal is clear and is determined to win more medals. She is the most decorated gymnast in history. Accumulating seven Olympic medals—four of which are gold—that she won at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her personal is filled with struggles at different phases of her life and she has lived through them like a champion.

Simone Biles rising from her early struggles

Starting from a young age she was sent to foster care. But her grandparents raised her when they heard the news. She dropped out of school and focused more on her training. With the help of her grandparents, she was training for more than 32 hours a week.

She took a sabbatical from gymnastics citing mental health issues. That was a tough period in her life. People started questioning her and did not approve of her decision. She competed again two years after her initial absence. And her performance was still at the top.

Even after the event Magic Johnson took to Twitter to express his joy after seeing her perform. He wrote, “In her return, the GOAT Simone Biles, becomes the first gymnast in history–man or woman–to win 8 U.S. all-around titles!”

Magic Johnson clearly understands the pressure of the world. Simone Biles has seen a lot of ups and downs in her career. But people tend to forget that she is human after all.
