Michael Jordan‘s love for golf began in the 1980s. He was first introduced to the sport by his friend when he joined the University of North Carolina. Following his retirement from basketball, Michael Jordan has spent most of his time on the golf course. He is also a member of various golf clubs across the United States.
But even Jordan was not above the rules, as he was kicked off a golf club because of his clothing choices. Being the competitor that Jordan is, he decided to build his own golf course and then made it the most exclusive club out there.

Michael Jordan’s golf course in Florida is known as the Groove XXIII, which is a nod to his jersey number. People sometimes speculate that he bought the place because he didn’t like other players slowing him down at golf clubs.
Jordan bought the 200-plus acres of former citrus grove and contacted Bobby Weed, who owns one of the best golf designers and builders in the world. He has his own company for building golf courses. Michael Jordan met Weed and had only two statements for him when talking about the initial contract. Jordan said, “Build me the best golf course. Build me the best driving range“.
Weed and his team knew the importance of the work and decided to build a course that suited the likeness of His Airness. Jordan was heavily invested in the making of the course and often visited many times a week to check on the process. According to Weed, Jordan never interfered in his work, was always a great listener, and let Weed do his work.
Jordan wanted the course to be firm and flat. The course was built in a way to enhance Jordan’s playstyle. Weed revealed that Jordan had told him that if he was going to spend that much money, then he should have a bit of an advantage. Weed also built a training facility of the highest quality, and without a doubt, there is nothing else in the world that can come close to it.
Once the golf course was finished, both Jordan and Weed played a game on the course. After the play had finished, Weed recalls Jordan telling him, “I’m fortunate enough; I can be anywhere in the world, but there’s no other place I’d rather be than right here“.

Michael Jordan has been to La Gorce in Miami countless times and has worn cargo pants. During his final game at La Gorce, he was informed that he was violating their dress code and had to change his clothes. Jordan declined the approach, as he did not want to interrupt the game he was playing.
Soon after, the authorities cut ties and the 6x champion was no longer welcome at La Gorce. The Groove XXIII is estimated to have cost close to 20,000,000 dollars. The representative from Jordan shared that it was the country club’s loss and not anyone else’s.
