NBA stars tend to be as mentally strong as physically dynamic. Due to the constant media scrutiny, a certain toughness is necessary. But, in the game itself, a mental edge is necessary to establish command. So, for arguably the GOAT of the sport, Michael Jordan had to have an excellent memory. But, rather than an instance on the court, it is a golf anecdote that truly showcases the extent of that brainpower.
While he never took to golfing professionally like basketball or baseball, Jordan’s inclination to it is famous. It has even led the former owner of the Charlotte Hornets to build a luxurious invite-only golf club called The Grove XXIII. It was during a visit to the Club that Tony Finau got to witness first-hand the incredible memory that Mike possesses. Making an appearance on the Complex Sneakers Podcast, Finau detailed his relationship with MJ.

The two have been acquaintances since the mid-2000s. Further, Tony credits Mike for being “incredible to me”. But their first encounter was a rather inconspicuous one. However, to Finau’s surprise, the Chicago Bulls had a full recollection of it.
While the golfing superstar was detailing his experiences with, and around, Mike, the Complex team had a question. “And he knows that you’re that kid who met him back in 2007.” Finau replied, “100%. And I was surprised to remember or remind him of that and that he remembered…So, yeah, I’ve had nothing but great experiences with MJ.”

“This is back in ’07…So, I’m hitting on the range and somebody says to me, ‘Keep it up, young buck,’ and I kind of look back and it’s I’m like, ‘Wait a sec.’ I had to take a second look. And so I ended up, you know, meeting him,” the 34-year-old golfer stated.
However, it wasn’t just memory prowess that Finau revealed about the 5x NBA MVP. He also revealed a surprising time when MJ wasn’t his usual competitive self. Since that fateful encounter a decade and a half back, the two have enjoyed an amicable relationship.
