Before Humiliating Loss, Charles Barkley Ducked DJ Khaled’s Challenge at Capital One’s ‘The Match’

What happens when two of the worst golf enthusiasts play against each other? Someone gets their feelings hurt. That someone is Charles Barkley after he played head-to-head against DJ Khaled in a par-3 before The Match. Both are known for their love of golf even if their skills in the game are disproportionate. Turns out, the Chuckster is the worst of the worst.

While Chuck went back to his main job – commentating alongside Ernie Johnson – the Grammy-winning music mogul was celebrating loudly. “You’re going to see me and Barkley play 18,” he told Ernie. In fact, he wanted an extended game with Barkley instead of a best 2 out of 3. “He [Barkley] wanted to play a par 3. I wanted to do a full 18.” Ernie said what everyone’s thinking and that is no one wants to see the two of them play a full game.

Khaled still did the humble-brag act to rub it in Barkley’s face making the NBA legend grudgingly say, “Your humbleness on winning is just contagious.” Khaled praised his opponent nonetheless saying, “It was so inspiring to play with a legend like you and to be able to compete and beat you is legendary.” And he wants to do it all over again.

Charles Barkley is a staple of The Match. In 2020, he beat out the Stephen Curry and Peyton Manning pair to win The Match alongside Phil Mickelson. He was surely missing Phil this time.

DJ Khaled outshines Charles Barkley

The Round Mound of Not Getting a Hole in One got the early lead winning the first hole. Khaled demanded a rematch which Chuck made the mistake of conceding to. He ended up losing the next two rounds with his terrible swing.

Meanwhile Khaled, armed with a pair of Jordans, pulled out all stops to ensure he won in the end. Fans got a good laugh when Khaled misunderstood his match with Barkley was part of The Match and not just an entertaining side-quest.

“I beat him. We played three games, I won two. Like, that was the easiest game I’ve ever played in my whole career,” Khaled gloated to Barkley. He was so high on this win, that he was challenging The Match winner, Rory McIlroy to a full 18. The seasoned PGA veteran is ready to take on the challenge “any time.” Barkley would surely enjoy McIlroy exacting vengeance on his behalf.
