Andre Iguodala bid farewell to his NBA career in October 2023 after playing for 19 seasons. He was pivotal in bringing the Warriors four Championships (2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022). Even before he hung his boots, the Warriors legend launched the Point Forward Podcast in 2022. Andre co-hosts the show with longtime friend and former Sixers teammate Evan Turner, who retired in 2020.

In a recent episode of the show, special guest Ernie Johnson, TNT sportscaster and Inside the NBA host, joins the two as they embark on a discussion about keeping it fresh and fun at TNT. As the conversation unfolds, Andre makes an unusual plea to Earnie about joining TNT as an intern.

Andre would have to tend to Shaq and Barkley

Andre hilariously gives Ernie a heads-up that Turner and he will come into their studio at TNT to do an internship. However, Ernie gives the two a fair warning that things might not be as easy as they think. He believes that the two could potentially be reduced to serving senior co-hosts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley as fresh interns. Ernie says, “That’d be great we’ll have a 35 and a 40 year old interns walking around the studio having Shaq and Charles say, ‘hey get me this, get me that,’ yeah I don’t know that that’s what you really want out of your life at this point but if you’re willing we got a spot for you.

Turner chimes in on the conversation saying, “Interns aren’t free anymore,” but they would be willing to do it for free at TNT. Jokes aside, Andre’s true intention behind wanting to intern at TNT was to get a hang of the special chemistry that the hosts there have developed over the years and how they manage to keep it interesting and entertaining. While it is unsure whether Iggy and Turner will make it to TNT, the former Champion has already made it big with the NBA.

The new Executive Director of the NBPA

In November last year, Andre was appointed as the Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) replacing Tamika Tremaglio. Later, it was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that he was only serving as the acting executive director. However, as of now, he is still holding the post and will likely do so for the foreseeable future.

Regardless, Andre will always be remembered for his contributions to the game of basketball. He was not only one of the league’s best perimeter defenders, but he could improve everyone around him with his deft passing, insane ball handling, and minimal turnover rate. Interestingly, if he hadn’t stepped down from his career last year, he would have been the oldest active NBA player at 40 years of age, surpassing 39-year-old LeBron James.
