Talk about the famed trailblazers of the NBA and the Philadelphia 76ers are frequently on the top. Maybe not in recent times, but the two-time champions have boasted some of the greatest names in basketball. From The Round Mound of Rebound, Charles Barkley to Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain and Dr. J, the league’s greatest have donned the Sixers jersey. Notably, 4-time scoring champion Allen Iverson spent the first 10 years of his career in the City of Brotherly Love. Recently, the player showered praise on Philadelphia and the franchise where he accomplished the most of his success. 

It’s not a secret how the $3.15 billion franchise Philadelphia 76ers improved under the influence of the player. In a conversation during a live event, the former player stated his love for the franchise and its fans.

Allen Iverson on Philadelphia, the city that drafted him

AI’s handle and shiftiness as an offensive player are considered second to none. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him 1st overall in the 1996 NBA draft. After winning less than 20 games the previous season, Philly fans’ only cause for celebration was the drafting of the Georgetown guard. If the question was how the Sixers can return to their winning ways, then AI was The Answer.

Recently, the 48-year-old stated how the city has helped him grow into a proper man and player. He explained how the city is like his family and his safe space.

The 1997 Rookie of the Year described it as his “man cave.” During a live event, Allen Iverson spoke about his bonding with the fans and the city.

He explained, “I became a man in Philadelphia. I was 21 years old when I got there. As far as an athlete and a fanbase, there’s no other relationship like mine with the people of Philadelphia.”

“But when it’s all over, the love is still there,” Iverson explained about feeling celebrated by the city post-retirement.

 

He added, “My man cave is everything…You get that feeling when you walk down there in a man cave and you look around and you see all those jerseys and the guys that you looked up to because I’m the biggest sports fan in the world.”

As an avid fan of sports, Iverson must have been delighted with the recent announcement from three-time champion Dwyane Wade.

The 11-time NBA All-Star has always been admired by fans and his rivals alike. But it was quite a surprise when the 3-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade announced that Allen Iverson would be the one presenting him into the Hall of Fame.

Fans were quite astonished as the future Hall of Famer chose the Philadelphia 76ers legend over his friends and legendary teammates. But the reason is actually rather heartwarming. Many might not realize but Wade’s jersey number was directly inspired by Iverson.
