There’s a lot to focus on today but Charles Barkley is making sure everyone is covered. Killer Mike, a rapper, activist, and occasional face on NBA on TNT, had an eventful week. Along with Grammy wins and an altercation, it was an emotional time for his family as his son underwent surgery. Mikael “Pony Boy” Render received a kidney transplant on February 5. The 21-year-old’s family stated he’s doing well.

Charles Barkley was particularly happy things were looking up for the rapper. He sought a moment between all the basketball talk on Inside the NBA to give their old friend a shoutout. “Get well to your son,” he said on behalf of the TNT crew.

Pony Boy had waited three years for a successful match before the surgery on Monday, a day after his father’s Grammy win. Killer Mike himself reported that his son “did really well” immediately after the surgery.

He’s been sharing the family’s worries with the younger Mikael’s health struggles. They discovered that his kidneys were failing when his feet swelled up. The rapper stayed by his son as he underwent dialysis. He recalled how both of them were in tears while all he was hoping for was for Mikael to survive.
