In a recent interview on CBS with James Brown, the Los Angeles Lakers legend explained the mentorship that he would provide for the team. Johnson reassured his players that they would never have to worry about ownership anymore. They only have to focus on the game and nothing else.
Magic Johnson was asked what he was trying to accomplish by immersing himself in the game and the facility at all times. To this, Magic Johnson replied, “I will be actively involved“. He wants to be a part of the team and not just be an owner for name recognition. Then it took a hilarious turn as he explained that he can’t help the players when it is strictly related to football and playing on the field, as his expertise was on the hardwood.
But if it’s about winning or just life in general, he always has his doors open for anyone on the team. He said that he wants to help them with their lives after work as well. So if they want to ask him about starting a business or being an entrepreneur after retiring, he can always help them with that.
The 64-year-old then finished off his statement by saying, “I will be there for them, both on the field and off the field“. He wants to impart the same wisdom that he received during his time as a player.
