An “X” post of “Awful Announcing”(Sports media news and analysis page that is part of the @thecomeback) made baseless accusations on Redick’s “media disappearance”. The “X” post attaches a link to the entire article as it mentions, “After slowly losing his mind last season, JJ Redick hasn’t been on First Take so far this NBA season.” Richard Jefferson replies to this “X” post with a post of his own. The 41-year-old ESPN employee responds, “Or maybe he has a limited amount of dates on his contract and the company is prioritizing the second half of the season and postseason.” Jefferson further mentions in the “X” post, “Cool story though. Richard Jefferson respects and appreciates JJ Redick’s contribution to sports media through his stint as an ESPN analyst. However, it is Redick’s rapidly growing podcast that has catapulted him to instant fame and made him one of the most influential sports media personalities today.
JJ Redick’s Sports Media Journey
After playing for 15 seasons in the NBA, JJ Redick retired from the league in September 2021. Within two months, Redick started working as an on-air sports analyst for ESPN. However, in a podcast interview of “DraftKings’ Starting Five video series”, the Retired NBA veteran mentions that there was a time (in the NBA) when he was a very introverted person. The famous sports media personality reveals that his smooth transition into the sports media industry was all thanks to his time in Los Angeles. As an L.A. Clippers player, JJ Redick could slowly come out of his ‘shell’ as he randomly started meeting important and relevant people.
He mentions to the hosts after the podcast, “When I went to the Clippers, big media market, a lot of eyeballs, we were a good team. The city’s huge. You start meeting people, you’re randomly at a fundraiser for the Democratic Party at Magic Johnson’s house and you’re up on stage with Harry Reid. And you’re like, what? How did I f***ing end up here? I’m taking a picture with Diane Keaton…”.
