Fleeing His Favorite City for Daughter’s Safety, Miami Legend Dwyane Wade Comes Clean on His Parenting Decision

NBA legend Dwyane Wade made headlines when he filed a petition to change his daughter’s name and gender officially. Back in 2020, Wade’s daughter came out as transgender. While Wade’s parenting style has impressed and inspired many, it raised doubts and concerns for some. Despite the backlash, the Heat legend and his wife have stayed steadfast in their support of their daughter and parenting principles.

But that also meant moving to a safe and secure space for the family. Unbothered by the criticism, the 3-times NBA champion was just worried about his family’s safety. The problematic system of Florida led the Wade family to a new and more welcoming place.

Dwyane Wade’s gentle parenting style

For the fierce Miami Heat player, his children always come first. After his retirement, he devotes most of his time to his children. The player and his wife Gabrielle Union have always supported their children. Wade’s quote on his parenting style has influenced many other parents and even writers to add his quote to their books.

Recently, Dwyane Wade shared a photo of his quote from the popular book, The Daily Dad on his IG. The quote reads, “My wife and I, our whole job is to provide, to protect, to love, to facilitate…It’s to find out who our children are, find out their likes and their dislikes, and try to help them through life, to find themselves. It’s not about us.”

The 2006 final MVP played for the Miami Heat from 2003 to 2016 and then again returned for his final season in 2018-2019. But the rules and laws of Florida concerned the player about his family’s safety.

Dwyane Wade and his family moved to California

Wade wanted a safe space where his children could grow up with love and care. And that led the family to move to California. After his retirement, the player shifted along with his family. Wade has mentioned in interviews before that he is very supportive and protective of his family. His decision just proved the same.

Back in 2021, Wade’s son Zaire Wade launched his own line of apparel in support of LGBTQI and Pride Month. The initiative was also lauded by the player. Recently, Wade and his wife were also seen cheering and encouraging Zaya at her debut Miu Miu show. Hollywood actress Union especially has been a major support system for the 16-year-old Zaya. She taught her how to embrace her true identity and find happiness.
