Wade had a number of severe injuries throughout what were supposed to be his heydays, some of which made him wonder if he would never be able to play basketball again. In 2007 he ended up rupturing his meniscus and dislocating his left knee. D-Wade was really depressed following these terrible injuries. After putting in a great deal of effort to build his remarkable form, his NBA career was in danger.
In a Point Forward interview, Wade discussed the need to be adaptable and knowledgeable about current events, whether they relate to sports, business, or anything else. Even if someone enters a room knowing nothing about it, they should still learn more about it the next day.
“I think I started focusing on different things when the injuries started to hit. When you play this game and you have injury after injury, as confident as you are, we lack some confidence too. Am I gonna get back to that level?”
However, this injury made him more conscious, and he began to examine his own backup plans and consider if he should form a team in the future and how much money would be needed to do so.

With his engagement in initiatives, enterprises, collaborations, and philanthropy, Wade adopted a jack-of-all-trades mindset to stay occupied. This includes his wine from Wade Cellars; apparel featuring his Way of Wade line of sneakers; a baby care brand he co-founded; a partner in an 800-degree wood-fired kitchen; and the Wade entertainment production company.
A single traumatic crisis made him build an empire away from the court.
Basketball has made Wade’s opportunity for a post-NBA career possible, but his own drive and savvy business sense made him the Renaissance Man.
