According to Mario Chalmers, it takes only one word. He infamously had a spat with his then-teammate, LeBron James and chatter went around that they didn’t get along. However, they were unique teammates with tailormade tactics to rile each other up. Chalmers referred to their known spat to expose the “trigger word” that gets under James’ skin. He claims this word was the factor in another on-court spat the Lakers star had recently.
The trash-talker was on Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller’s podcast, The OGs. And UD confirmed Mario Chalmers’ version of events. “It was a moment, so the key matchup was him [LeBron James] and Paul George…” He recalled adding that James was snappish at him when he told Chalmers to guard Paul George.
Chalmers didn’t like being called out but didn’t immediately react. It was during timeout that he tried to light a fire under James. “So we get back to the bench, and I’m like, ‘[expletive] we losing like all this b***h that we doing like we got to stop acting like b***h and just play b***h basketball,‘” Chalmers narrated shocking Miller while Haslem was plain amused.

His expletive-laden rant didn’t end there. “‘B***h you the best player out here, stop being a b***h and go play,’ and he took offense to that. He was kind of like, you just jumped at me, like me?”
Haslem confirmed to Miller that it’s how it went down. But Chalmers clarified, “I didn’t call him a b***h, I said to stop playing like a b***h.” In about the dozen times though, Chalmers did call James that at least once. It was sort of deliberate too because King James doesn’t take kindly to that word.

The consequences of triggering LeBron James
Seconded by UD, Chalmers exposed the guaranteed effect of James’ trigger word. It’s what apparently got Ime Udoka in trouble.
Fans might recall that brief altercation in December 2023. James had a spat with Ime Udoka, the Houston Rockets coach and both received technicals for that. It was Udoka’s second of the night and the coach was ejected. Since then, speculation has floated about what Udoka said to get that reaction out of James. Chalmers said on The OGs, “It was the same thing Udoka said to him. We all know that’s his trigger word. That is Bron’s trigger word.”

Like Udoka, Chalmers also faced the consequences for cussing at James. “I paid for it because I got benched but I did what I was supposed to do.” It was Chalmers’ explicit tactics that pushed James to win two championships with the Miami Heat. Even Miller summed it up as, “The sacrifices you have to make.”
