It has been a historic night in the city of Miami. While their hero and best player in franchise history was ready to embrace a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the Miami Heat franchise had much grander plans. Courtesy of the Godfather Pat Riley, the news became official. An 8-foot statue outside their stadium for Wade would be a permanent addition to Vice City. Caught off-guard, D-Wade was visibly moved and overcome with emotion.

After the proceedings, which included a tear-jerking hug between the two legends, The Flash sat down to share his headspace after the historic announcement. When absorbing the gravity of the moment, the 3x NBA Champion would once again be overcome with emotion. “I’m not really a person who gets lost for words, I got too many words actually. I didn’t dream of this and so, I mean, I’m just so grateful. I’m very grateful. Thank you to the Erikson family. Thank you to the Riley family.”

However, he was quick to look at the bigger picture as well. “Make the city of, the state of Florida, and Miami, just follow the love. And I can’t wait for families to experience what that’s gonna be like, from all around the world. To come and have a moment of the culture, that’ll be out front. So, I can’t wait till that day, man. So, I’m excited.”

The former number 5 overall pick spoke about the culture that people could experience outside the Heat arena. It is a culture and a mentality that has become synonymous with the franchise. However, the true impact that Dwyane had on the game is far deeper.

While the unquestioned “face of the franchise” as Pat bestowed upon him, he was an inspiration on the court to a whole generation of athletes. As a result, you look at a guy like Donovan Mitchell – athletic, tenacious, explosive, smooth, with a 3-point shot to boot, and it is easy to envision what a modern-day Dwyane Wade would look like.
