The former Los Angeles Lakers star had a keen eye for talent and flair. That led to the iconic nickname ‘Flash’ for Wade as he witnessed the speed and skill embedded in Wade’s gameplay. Wade’s speed showcased his incredible athleticism on the basketball court. Notably, Wade’s was possibly one of the quickest in NBA history.

“He was staring at me for a minute and was like ‘I got it.’ The media came in after the game and he said my nickname, Flash. I rolled with it. I didn’t like it at first, and then I was traveling to different cities and arenas and everybody was calling me ‘Flash’,” said Wade in an interview.

It was also part of O’Neal’s plan to enhance Wade’s reputation and marketing appeal. Wade has always mentioned how O’Neal was the one to introduce him to the business world.
