It happened! A feat that most fans were eagerly awaiting didn’t take long to arrive. However, the results weren’t as explosive as most would imagine. Even though astonishing, the moment wasn’t as spectacular. After a 25-game suspension, Ja Morant has given the Memphis Grizzlies a jolt in the arm. But what most fans were waiting for was a poster of 7’4″ Victor Wembanyama. And, in their first encounter itself, the dream came to pass.
But, even in that short duration, a story was already brewing. In the very first minute of the game, the two went one on one. While Morant made a drive, Wembnyama was ready for the block. However, Ja learned from his mistake.

In the fourth quarter, Morant would bust out a few nifty moves before attacking the rack. A couple of crossovers beat his man and put the San Antonio Spurs in a cycle, and he was at the rim. In his way? A French demigod, of course.
Despite the first-quarter embarrassment, the 2x All-Star wasn’t deterred. Instead, he went his favorite route, dunking it over Victor. But, with Wemby moving out of harm’s way and not contesting, could the move count as the spectacular poster everyone had dreamed of?
That is the question that Dwight Howard, too, brought up. A 3x DPOY and a blocking machine, Howard has been on the receiving end of his fair share of dunks and posters. However, he doesn’t think this one qualifies as one.
Reacting to the highlight, he brought up the same. “Crossover was 🔥Is this really a poster, though?” One peep at the comment section confirms DH-12’s analysis. Most fans agree that the dunk, while impressive, wasn’t the mind-numbing poster everyone had envisioned.

But the larger story coming out of Memphis is the resurgence of the team under their superstar.

In his short while back, Morant already has the Grizzlies looking like a completely different team. During his absence, the team was able to string together just 6 victories. Further, it did allow Desmond Bane to unlock a new level in his game as well. However, their latest over the Spurs was their 5th since Ja came back.
After an explosive, buzzer-beating return in his first game, he and the team as a whole are steadily rounding into form. With the NBA world coming around on the youngster, and his return sparking heartfelt messages, the true question is how far can he lead this team?

With a humongous deficit already in place, the task is a tall order. But, if the first 2 weeks are anything to go by, Morant is up for the task. Can he come through?
