“Doesn’t Sit Right With Me”: Having Played for Doc Rivers, Jamal Crawford Breaks Silence on Bold All-Star Selection

Doc Rivers finally won his first game as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. However, many are still not sure about the firing of Adrian Griffin. When the Bucks parted ways with their former head coach, the news came as a shock to a lot of people given the team’s record. So, when Rivers was appointed as the new coach, many questioned it. The Bucks’ failure to win the first two games under Rivers added fuel to the fire.

Before things calmed down, it was announced Rivers would once again take Griffin’s spot. This time, as the head coach of the East All-Stars. This had once again fueled some grumblings. Notably, former NBA star Jamal Crawford wondered why Griffin was not enough for the Bucks despite being eligible to coach the All-Stars. Crawford shared his honest thoughts on X, “A. Griffin doing enough as a coach to represent the Eastern Conference all stars, yet get fired and not be able to coach them doesn’t sit right with me…”

The Bucks also had the league’s second-best record alongside the Minnesota Timberwolves of 30-13 with Griffin in charge. So, the fans could not fathom why he was fired despite this. Now, Crawford has also opened up about it even though he played under Rivers during their time together with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Doc Rivers feels the situation is “ridiculously bad”

Giannis Antetokounmpo made sure the occasion was not spoiled after Doc Rivers was named as the All-Star head coach. He erupted for 48 points to lead the Bucks to a comeback win against the Dallas Mavericks. After the game, Rivers was asked about representing the East All-Stars. But the 2008 NBA champion was not happy with the situation and made his stance clear.

“That’s ridiculously bad. It really is. Well, Adrian’s going to get some money, that’s for sure. And a ring. It’s one of these quirky things. I think there should be a rule somehow that someone else does it other than me,” the Hall of Famer stated.

Doc Rivers added, “Maybe I’ll send my staff, and I’ll go on vacation. I’m going to run that by Adam Silver. I think Adam’s a good man. I think he’ll understand.”

Antetokounmpo was surprised to know Rivers and his staff would be representing the Eastern Conference. If he accepts the role, it would be his fourth time coaching an All-Star team. Rivers had previously managed an All-Star lineup in 2008, 2011, and 2021.
