There have been some flamboyant personalities in the NBA. However, no one has managed to match the level of Dennis Rodman. He truly was one of his kind during his time in the league. Every athlete who has shared the stage with him has a Rodman story to tell. Recently, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki told his Rodman story.

The Rodzilla had a short stint with the Mavs after his Chicago Bulls glory days. Recalling Rodman’s 36-day tenure with his team, Nowitzki said it was a “wild” time and unveiled several secrets from back then.

Rodman has always been an eccentric personality. It is all fun and games for the 5x NBA champion until it’s time for the tip-off. Once the ball goes into action, he founf a switch and would become completely different. Recently, the younger generation got a glimpse of his personality from the Netflix documentary on Michael Jordan and the Bulls. Rodman is still considered one of the best rebounders to have ever played the game, and he achieved all that by playing to his own tune. After his glory days with the Bulls, he went to the LA Lakers for a short period of time before joining the Mavs.

Nowitzki was recently on All The Smoke podcast where the hosts asked him about his experience with Rodman. The 2011 NBA champion said that in 2000, the management decided to make a “splash” in the league and they ended up signing Rodman. For Nowitzki, it was a special moment because he idolized Rodman and his Bulls teammates. He said that the Mavs would gather 40 minutes before the game to dish out the final plans, but that was Rodman’s time for a shower so he never attended those sessions. The 2011 NBA champion said, “After the games, he would put on his whole gear and would go lift.”

“Put on a cowboy hat with these feathers, didn’t shower, and just walk right out the arena,” Nowitzki unveiled Rodman’s post-gym routine.

Rodman played 12 games for the Mavs during his 36-day stint. At the age of 38, Rodman during his short tenure received six technical fouls, got ejected twice, and was suspended for a game. He did all of this in just 12 games for the franchise. However, the motive behind bringing him in was fulfilled, as the Mavs made a lot of noise in the league.

The Mavs took a big hit during this time as they went from having a winning record to 4–9 after his arrival. This led to Rodman being waived by the Dallas franchise which also marked the end of his colorful NBA career.
