Sic Parvis Magna.?The Latin phrase translates to “Greatness From Small Beginnings“. While some people are born into greatness, others have to fight a long way to achieve their dreams. In the case of Gilbert Arenas, his journey from rags to riches has been gaining popularity by the day. After a touching tribute to his father, Arenas has won over everyone’s hearts.

However, there is one thing that his father gave him that Gil isn’t a huge fan of. Fortunately, he saved his own son from suffering the same fate.

Arenas has a youngin poised to take over the NBA. Like his father, 16-year-old Alijah looks to be an instant bucket. Whether or not his career pans out as successfully as his father remains to be seen. But it was actually a shock when he was born in the first place. For years, Gilbert was involved in a very public feud with wife, Govan. Unfortunately, it included everything from a soap opera. From court battles to tabloids and subpoenas, their relationship wasn’t easy.

However, speaking to Andscape, Gil revealed that wanted to be more like his father, after being relatively absent throughout his first child’s journey.

I just had this thought of not being a typical absentee father. Don?t be this single dude or a deadbeat dad. I wanted to be my Dad. Just make it work and be a family man. I tried to force being a family,” admitted the former Washington Wizards point guard.

Still, there was one thing he wasn’t giving the newborn that he got from his father.

During his childhood, Gilbert and his family weren’t on the best of terms. Feeding off pennies, the situation was rough. He and his father even experienced homelessness. But for the 3-time All-Star, his father remained his true role model.

?My Dad didn?t drop me or lose me…He always fought for me. He did everything for me. Every day. So I?m gonna fight for my kids. That?s what he taught me.”?On the court, Arenas tried to showcase that same mentality throughout his career for his team.

While Alijah tries to win over his father, on the court and off it, the recipe is clear. Be more like grand pops.? It’s clear that the one-time Golden State Warrior strived to be like him. While Gilbert might not have gotten the ideal name of the kind he wanted, he did get a cool nickname and the life he always dreamed about.
