In the NBA, being a child of legends ensures the pressure that comes along is sky-high. DJ Rodman has felt that pressure since the beginning, yet he carves out his path. Being the son of 5X NBA champion Dennis Rodman, people look at you from a whole different perspective. The Chicago Bulls legend has openly agreed during his HOF ceremony that he wasn’t good with his family: “I haven’t been a great father, I haven’t been a great husband.”
Michelle Moyer, his wife, filed for divorce a year after the HOF speech. Rodman and Michelle were granted a divorce in 2012. Seems like DJ has also cut his ties with his father. The relationship is not great, there have been a few hints dropped on social media but there is no official statement as to why DJ and Rodman are not close. During Rodman Jr.’s final game in his college basketball final season, he posted a photo on Instagram alongside his family and Rodman was missing.

DJ wrote, “It Was Fun, Until the End ☯️🤞🏽.” In the collage, he first posted a picture with his family: his mom, his stepsister Teyana Lima, and her kids. Her sister Trinity was missing because of Senior night as Michelle clarified on her Instagram account. In other photos, he also tagged his current teammates with the USC Trojans including Bronny James. It’s not the first time that DJ has dropped a hint about his bond with his father Dennis Rodman.

Opening up Dennis Rodman’s can of worms
Dennis Rodman was called The Worm during his time in the NBA, for his never-before-seen rebounding ability. Seems his ability to bounce back is not that effective in his personal life. But even after the divorce, Michelle still uses his last name and so do the kids. DJ also wears the number 10 like his father.
On the occasion of ‘Father’s Day’ in 2020, DJ shared a picture with his mother, Michelle with a clear-cut caption. He wrote, “Happy Father’s Day to the one who help me grow up to the person I am today and played both father and mother figures for my whole life.” Ouch.

Last year, after losing out in the first round of March Madness with his former team Washington State Cougars, DJ shared a collage of photos and videos during his time at the Cougars. He wrote, “Ones that don’t understand my story, won’t know I’m self-made.”
Officially nothing has been said by DJ, Dennis Rodman, or any other family member. But from the photos it is clear that DJ is closer to his mom and thinks the world of her. He seems at peace keeping his distance from his father Dennis Rodman.
